Part 1 detailed the request from our wholesale customer for a rare black opal the jeweler required to manufacture a fine piece of jewelry commissioned by a gem connoisseur who as it turned out was in the market for an opal pendant destined for his wife’s necklace.

Our gem expert continued searching the global gem markets for a world class opal after a series of rare black opals we delivered to the jewelry salon were rejected by the customer. The search took us far and wide with our expert calling on specialist dealers and private collectors.
Persistence paid off when we located a truly world class superb black opal, but not before a series of layouts incorporating fabulous black opals with accompanying natural fancy color diamonds were turned down by the customer.
The black opal which was located in the inventory of a dealer specializing in fine opals prompted a flurry of negotiation which culminated in the acquisition of the most amazing black opal from Lightning Ridge, Australia.

The 12.46 carat gem was then arranged in a layout with natural coloured diamonds and delivered to our customer who secured a sale to his customer for a wonderful pendant.
Natural fancy coloured diamonds including at centre 0.40 carat Fancy Intense Orange cushion shape, at apex 0.41 carat Fancy Intense Yellow pear shape, bottom left 0.30 carat Fancy Yellow pear shape, bottom right 0.30 carat Fancy Brownish Pink and a pair of fancy yellow series diamonds.
